Ben Weatherill's Playwriting Course

Mon 8 Mar 2021

We’re pleased to introduce a new playwriting scheme for creatives in the East Midlands, hosted by acclaimed playwright Ben Weatherill.

Over seven sessions, eight writers will have the opportunity to develop a full-length script with Ben, together with input from other guest writers. The programme will culminate in dramaturgical feedback from Ben and the team at Curve, as well a chance to workshop the final draft.

We’re interested in you and would love to get an idea of you as a writer and the stories you’d like to tell. No past experience is necessary.

The initial workshops will take place on Zoom at 7 – 9pm on the below dates. The course is free to join, but you should be available to attend ALL sessions:

Tuesday 13 April Tuesday 11 May
Tuesday 20 April Tuesday 25 May
Tuesday 27 April Tuesday 2 June
Tuesday 4 May

HOW TO APPLY

To apply for a place, please provide us with the following information:

  • Your name, email address, home address, contact number and your connections to the Midlands or Leicester.
  • A short description – no more than a page – of an idea or synopsis of a play you would like to write, including who you think the play is for (who is your audience, who will this play speak to?). We’re especially interested in developing plays about Leicester and some of the extraordinary things that have happened here.
  • A short sample of your writing. This could be a scene from the play or screenplay, or some pages of prose or poems.

Once you have collated these details, please send your application to artistdevelopment@curvetheatre.co.uk with the subject BEN‘S PLAYWRITING COURSE. The deadline for applications is midnight on Tuesday 6 April.

Eight writers will be selected to participate in this opportunity. Due to the volume of submissions received, it may not be possible to respond to all applications.
