Diwali Community Day
On Sunday 5 November, we will be hosting a Diwali Community Day, 11am – 3pm.
Join us for FREE activities for all ages, including:
Studio Theatre:
11am – 12pm – Leicester Musical Memory Box Geet Sangeet Singing workshop
Leicester Musical Memory Box delivers therapeutic singing groups all over Leicestershire to people affected by dementia and other issues. This includes the person living with dementia and their wider circle of caring family and friends. Music affects 100% of your brain; none of us lose our musical memory and you can’t help but feel better when you work with music!
Dementia affects every community. LMMB’s groups for the South Asian community are called Geet Sangeet and we will be singing together in English, Gujurati, Hindi, and Punjabi!
12.30pm – 1.30pm – Nupur Arts Families Bollywood Dance Workshop
Nupur Arts Dance Academy is a Leicester-based South Asian dance academy, established in 1990. Nupur Arts specialises in Bharatanatyam, Bollywood and Folk, offering dance classes to all demographics and currently to over 200 students. Alongside their outreach work of engaging with artists, practitioners & other arts organisations to develop, promote and support South Asian arts in Leicestershire & beyond. 2pm – 3pm – Centre for Indian Classical Dance provides a free dance workshop.
Centre for Indian Classical Dance (CICD) is a Leicester-based South Asian dance organisation, founded in 1981 by Artistic Director Nilima Devi (MBE) to promote knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Indian culture. Over 40 years it has produced many professional and community productions, nurturing generations of talent from the city’s diverse community. Beyond the consistent teaching at the centre, CICD has a history of leading outreach work in schools, colleges and community organisations with alumni teaching dance classes at local, regional and national levels. Choogh Choogh is a performance work inspired by the joy of travelling through India on a train. This show is an exploration of just how much we can see and imagine, together, as the train chooghs chooghs on. Tickets are available here for performances at 11am and 2pm.
Running Time: This is a 25-minute performance, with an additional 15-20 minute stay and play session afterwards.
Age recommendation: 18 months – 7 years.
