Cat on a Hot Tin Roof auditions: Applications now open for boys aged 9-13

Fri 16 Jul 2021

This is a fantastic opportunity for young performers to join the ensemble cast of Curve’s Autumn production of the sensational play, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, co-produced with English Touring Theatre and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and supported by grant funding from the Royal Theatrical Support Trust (RTST).

This new revival of Tennessee Williams’ lyrical Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece is a blazing portrayal of what it takes to survive in a society where we’re all desperate to feel free. The children are the sons of Mae and Gooper  –  who join the Pollitt family as they meet to celebrate Big Daddy’s 65th birthday party, where shattering truths threaten to spiral out of control.

You will work with award-winning director Anthony Almeida (winner of the 2019 RTST Sir Peter Hall Director Award), and a brilliant team of creatives and actors.

The play is a serious dramatic piece and does contain adult themes and sexual references. However the children will only feature in moments which are age appropriate. If you have any questions regarding this please contact Beth Shouler b.shouler@curvetheatre.co.uk

If you would like to read a copy of the script please contact Jenny Baker j.baker@curvetheatre.co.uk

What Are We Looking For?

Curve is looking for ten boys to play various roles. The boys should have a playing age of between 9 and 13 years old. The youngest ACTUAL age a child can be is 9 years old but they can be older than 13 years old.

Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged.

Two of the boys’ parts will have dialogue and will need to speak with a southern US accent.

The play will rehearse in Leicester during August and play at Curve from Friday 3 to Saturday 19 September 2021. Please see below for the full schedule.

Two teams of five will share the children’s roles and will be allocated performances across the run. Applicants must be available from the beginning of rehearsals in Leicester on Monday 16 August. Every effort will be made to limit rehearsal calls to out of school hours.

You don’t need to have any previous performance or drama experience but you will need to be enthusiastic about the opportunity and able to commit to all the rehearsals and the performances.

Applications must be submitted on or before Friday 23 July.

When Are Auditions and What Happens In Them?

Once we have received your application form (available below) we will email you with an audition time and further information. If your parent / carer would like to read the script in advance please contact Jenny Baker j.baker@curvetheatre.co.uk who can arrange this.

Auditions will take place at Curve, Rutland Street, Leicester, LE1 1SB

They will take place on Wednesday 28 July 2021 between 4pm and 8pm.

You will need to arrive 15 mins before the start.

They will last about an hour and will be lead by the Assistant Director and a member of the Creative Programmes Team at Curve. This will involve a group workshop which includes games, drama exercises and looking at a small section of a scene. The process should be fun regardless of whether you are cast or not. The workshop will give us a chance to get to know you and for you to get to know us!

What Happens Afterwards?

The producer Dudley Hinton will be in touch to let you know whether we’d like to offer you a role or not.

If you are offered a role, a parent or carer will need to fill in a consent form and read the play so they know what you’re involved with. We will apply for a license for you to perform through your local council.

If you have any more questions please get in touch with Jenny Baker j.baker@curvetheatre.co.uk
