Curve announces line-up for third DMU Pride Festival

Leicester’s Curve theatre has announced the line-up of its third DMU Pride Festival, created with students from De Montfort University (DMU) to celebrate LGBT History Month.
From 24 Feb – 4 Mar, a host of LGBT productions will be performed across the theatre’s stages, alongside exhibitions, talks and workshops. The festival is curated by DMU students, working with the team at Curve as part of Curve and DMU’s strategic cultural partnership.
As part of the Festival, Curve has commissioned a new play by Rob Ward, who has previously been a part of DMU Pride with his production of Gypsy Queen, a love story between two boxers. This time, Rob returns to DMU Pride 3 – 4 Mar with his new play The MP, Aunty Mandy and Me – a provocative story of coercion, politics, power and manipulation. Dom, living his best Instagay life in a small Brexit-voting town meets a closeted MP, wrestling with conscience vs constituents. The unusual new friendship has its benefits, but how much give and take can one friendship withstand, when give just becomes take?
The festival begins with First Time. Fresh from his critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe debut, award-winning HIV+ theatre-maker Nathaniel Hall brings this autobiographical solo show about growing up positive in a negative world to Curve on Mon 24 Feb at 7:45pm.
The festival continues with ‘B’ (Tue 25 Feb, 7pm) from former DMU student Gerrard Martin, a dance duet exploring what it means to be both Black and Gay, fusing original club-influenced music and dance with audio clips of personal testimonials.
On Wed 26 Feb at 7:45pm, Soho Theatre presents Hotter. Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018, Hotter sees two best friends and former girlfriends talk all about what gets us hot and sweaty.
