CURVE HOST DE MONTFORT UNIVERSITY GRADUATIONS FOR 3RD CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Over 4,000 students from De Montfort University (DMU) will graduate in spectacular style at Leicester’s Curve theatre and will be watched by over 13,000 guests from 12 – 19 July 2014.
To date more than 10,000 students have received their degrees at Curve. The special event sees Curve’s Auditorium and Studio transformed into one huge space with the ceremony taking centre stage. At the beginning of the graduation ceremony, the walls between the two spaces fly up in a dramatic grand reveal, unveiling students seated opposite in the Studio to their guests in the Auditorium.
Hannah Hallam, Head of Business Development at Curve commented:
“It has been a great pleasure to host the DMU graduations here at Curve for the past two years and we’re looking forward to welcoming the new graduates this week. The bi-annual graduations bring a real buzz into the building with thousands of students celebrating their achievements. The flexible design of our main spaces allows us to create a truly theatrical moment that is memorable for both the students and spectators and often leaves very few dry eyes in the room. The DMU graduations have really helped establish Curve as one of the East Midlands’ leading venues for hosting large scale conferences and bespoke events”.
Honorary graduands this year will include former Leicestershire and England cricketer Mr David Gower OBE, British engineer and TV presenter, Kate Bellingham, and Ms Linda Jasper MBE, Director of Youth Dance England. Previous honorands include novelist, Sue Townsend, presenter, writer and broadcaster, Clare Balding, England Rugby Union player Lewis Moody MBE, and Moira Stuart OBE, broadcast journalist and presenter.
Curve has an ongoing partnership with DMU which has to date included the graduation ceremonies, work experience placements, and an annual co-production starring DMU Drama and Performing Arts students, performed at Curve.
