Tell us something about you and your practice:
I’ve spent most of my career working with young people on all kinds of theatre projects, usually in non-theatre spaces like church halls, libraries, schools, parks and on one occasion a football stadium full of 20,000 people! I’ve been with Curve since January 2018 so now I get to make work here- but you’ll still find me in all those kinds of places too!
What can people expect when they join CYC Act?
The chance to be part of high-quality professionally produced productions, delving deep into both classic and contemporary texts. We have fun, but it is the kind of fun derived from working hard towards a common creative goal. It’s not a social club-though lasting friendships are usually made along the way!
What are you looking for from your students?
I like actors- of any age- who are not afraid to bring creative ideas of their own to the process. We meet once a week so it’s vital people come knowing how to turn on their focus and concentration-even after a full day at school or college.
What is the best thing about working with CYC?
Allowing young people a voice and a high-profile outlet for their creativity and talent- and welcoming people from all kinds of backgrounds into this process.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever done?
Professionally, a project called ‘Grandpa’s Garden’ which was a big installation-based thing, turning school halls into a vast interactive garden world which was the set for a week-long theatre adventure… Personally, it would be being a (hopefully good) Dad.
What’s your favourite joke?
Q: How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb? A: The Fish….
